Intolerant Of Happiness

We live in Pakistan, so it is safe to assume we have a ton of people poking their unwanted noses in our personal business. Well, let's even forget that, poking their noses in our business is SOMEWHAT tolerable. But the habit that really irks me and has my blood boiling is when they comment on your life.

I kid you not, some relatives actually think this it is their moral obligation to tell you or rather not even tell but make an absolutely useless deducation about something in your life. I have encountered this personally so many times and have heard about this from my friends just as much.

Like when you get in to a university, 'Oh, woh tou achi university nahi hai, meri beti tou LUMS ja rahi he' (That's not really a good university, my daughter is going to LUMS). Um, okay? Good for her but i'm pretty happy and don't need your 'pity'. I am not kidding, they actually pity you and are convinced that you aren't happy.
'Aw, don't be sad, not everyone gets in to a good university'.
'But I'm happy?'
'No beta,  no need to hide your sadness'.
Oookay.

And the worst part? We can't do anything but smile politely because well, they're your 'elders' and the perks of being older than someone include insulting them without them being able to retaliate.

Incidents like these have lead to me to believe we can't see someone else happy. And because of this we actually destroy our chance at being happy too. Constantly being jealous of someone and wishing bad times upon them will only make you more miserable. I mean people resort to 'kaala jadu' (black magic) just because they can NOT stand someone else being happy. And the use of this disgusting practice is pretty widespread now, which just proves my point.

We're in a society where everyone is at all times trying to prove that they're better than you. Hey, all I am saying is if you do have something that truly makes you happy and others don't have it, well thank God for it, don't go around flaunting it and making people feel inadequate. If you do that, you're a truly shitty person that no one probably likes. All you're doing is making people bitter and yourself a target for hate and ill wishes.

So if you're happy, good for you but that in no way gives you the right to make others feel like shit for what they don't have.
